Penn State's Patricia Comerford Wins Outstanding Service Award

Alpha Zeta Alumna, Patricia M. Comerford, extension equine specialist in Penn State's Department of Dairy and Animal Science (DAS), received the 2010 Outstanding Service Award at the Eastern National 4-H Horse Roundup last week in Louisville, Ky.

Honored for her 19 years of service to the event, Comerford has served as a judge, co-superintendent of the Team Presentation Contest, and most recently as co-superintendent of the Individual Presentation Contest. As a member of the Eastern National Management Committee, she also served on the nominating committee and helped to revise the standard operating procedures and national communication contests rules. Comerford was recognized for her "professionalism and dedication to the high ideals of the contest."

Terry Etherton, MS, PhD, head of DAS, said, "I offer my sincere congratulations to Pat for this wonderful honor. She is a valued member of our staff and continues to provide outstanding leadership to our 4-H horse program and to the entire equine industry in Pennsylvania. "

As equine specialist, Comerford coordinates and provides leadership to the Pennsylvania 4-H horse program, assists with state extension horse programs for adults, and collaborates with equine industry groups and breed organizations. As an animal science instructor, she also serves as an undergraduate advisor for students with an equine science interest.

An avid horsewoman, Comerford has been involved in the horse industry as an owner, breeder, rider, farm manger, and educator for more than 40 years.
