During the week for September 23rd-29th, the North Carolina Chapter of Alpha Zeta helped raise money for Habitat for Humanity by participating in Shack-A-Thon, a tradition at NC State. We paired up with Sigma Alpha, another agricultural organization on NC States campus, and built a “Barnyard” shack for the event. Throughout the week, it is required that at least one person from either organization remains in the shack 24/7. The goal of this is to give students a small taste of what it feels like to feel homeless, a reality that many people face daily. During this time, we set up a raffle to raise money for the cause. We raffled off corn-hole boards, the right to name a newborn calf, and much more. After all this hard work, Alpha Zeta and Sigma Alpha surpassed our $700 goal by raising $902 total for Habitat for Humanity! A big thank you to the Sisters of Sigma Alpha, Brothers of Alpha Zeta, our sponsors (W.I. Wellons & Sons Farm, Southern Container Corporation, Agri-Supply, and McInnerney Construction), and our donors that made this achievement possible!
