The High Council, consisting of seven members, is the executive body of the Fraternity. The student and alumni representatives serve two year terms and are elected at each biennial conclave. The other five members serve staggered four year terms with either two or three elected to the High Council at each conclave. The executive director of the fraternity serves at the discretion of the High Council. The High Council functions as a board of directors and elects its own officers every two years.
High Council members volunteer their time to the Fraternity. They meet monthly via video conference. In addition, the High Council members correspond regularly with student chapters of the Fraternity.
The High Council has the authority to interpret the Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws and actions taken by the Conclaves subject to review and/or appeal by subsequent Conclaves. The High Council also acts as a board of review for chapter constitutions and bylaws.
The High Council has the authority to employ a principal administrative officer and staff and to equip a national office to transact the business of the Fraternity and its charitable Foundation. They also have the responsibility for authorizing Fraternity expenditures, recommending changes in the initiation fees and establishing dues, policies and procedures to assure proper financial management of the Fraternity.
The High Council establishes the date, location and character of the Conclaves. High Council members are also called upon as needed to perform other duties and represent the Fraternity.
Provided that sufficient funds are available, the High Council may choose to reimburse its members for reasonable, documented travel expenses incurred in relation to participation in authorized Alpha Zeta events.
The following High Council positions will be elected at the 2023 Biennial Conclave:
Two (2) four-year positions for regular members
One (1) two-year position for a Student Representative
One (1) two-year position for an Alumni Representative
