Twelve members as well as alumni of the North Carolina Chapter of Alpha Zeta tuned into a live Zoom tour of Scribe Furr’s family farm on February 5th. Rockwater Farm, LLC is managed by Alumni Brother, Dr. Ann R. Furr (NCSU CVM ’88). Brothers learned about the management, vaccination and nutrition needs as well as breed characteristics of both Belted Galloway beef cattle and Paso Fino horses. We discussed the farm to table aspects to be considered when raising beef cattle including BSE (Mad Cow Disease) as well as what the purpose of the Coggins test in horses (testing for Equine Infectious Anemia). Although we would have much rather had this tour in person, it was still a great learning experience for the Brotherhood and we are grateful for the opportunity!
