Dr. James Harvey Lilley, Jr., 55, passed away December 20, 2015 at his home. Jim was born May 9, 1960 in Wake County.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Swansboro with Dr. Larry Harper officiating. Burial will follow at Queens Creek Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the church.
Jim graduated from Swansboro High School and then went on to NC State University and then North Carolina school of veterinarian medicine at NC State University where he received his doctorate in veterinarian medicine. As a 10 year career 4-H member in Onslow County Jim was inducted in the NC 4-H Honor Club in 1976. During his freshman year, 1978, at NCSU he became a member of Alpha Sigma Phi brotherhood. During his time at NCSU he was a member of the NC State Marching Band playing a flag bearing NCSU herald trumpet, and in 1980 he was inducted in the Honor Society of Agriculture, Gamma Sigma Delta, at the same time his father was inducted as an alumni member, and he was also inducted in the Alpha Zeta, Honor Fraternity for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
After college he owned and operated Tidewater Animal Hospital in Plymouth, NC from 1987-1997; he was an active member of the Ruritans in Roper, NC and a member of the Rotary in Plymouth, NC, and he served as a Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Washington County Health Board. In 2007 Jim was appointed a NC Representative to the National Republican Convention.
Jim moved back to Hubert and built the AniMed Hospital as a practicing Veterinarian partner.
Jim was an active member of First Baptist Church in Plymouth, NC and upon returning to Hubert he rejoined his home church First Baptist of Swansboro, where he became a deacon and was the first non-pastoral Moderator.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Caroline Lilley of the home; parents, Harvey and Nancy Lilley of Swansboro; sister, Louise Hinsley (Larry) and nephew John Hinsley of Washington, NC.
