On November 13, 2013 the Cal Epsilon Chapter held a shop day in the Fresno State Agricultural Mechanics Shop in which the new member candidates could come and create their own handcrafted Alpha Zeta paddle. This event was absolutely free of charge for the new member candidates. Custom paddles through the local woodworking shops typically range anywhere from twenty to seventy dollars, quite an expense. Through the shop day, new member candidates were able to create and personalize their own paddle. Proper safety precautions were implemented and all turned out well. A total of ten paddles were created, one each for every new member candidate. The paddles will be decorated to the new member’s liking and presented at the Fall 2013 Initiation Ceremony. A special "Best Paddle" award will be given.
