AKRON, CO- Alpha Zeta alumni
Omer Joseph Kelley, 95, passed away in Akron,
Colo., on May 20, 2010. Dr.
Kelley, who forged a long career in national and international agriculture, was
just shy of celebrating his ninety-sixth birthday.
Dr. Kelley was born on May 30, 1914 on the family farm-ranch
homestead near Akron, Colo. He married Frances Emma Wilson on
December 24, 1940.
In 1939, he earned his B. S. degrees in Chemistry and
Agronomy and in 1940 a M.S. degree in Soils Science from Colorado State
University. In 1942, he
earned his PhD degree in Soil Physics at Ohio State University. He was elected to the
national professional honor societies, Alpha Zeta, Sigma Xi, Phi Lambda Epsilon
and Gamma Sigma Delta.
