Charles Louis Lang, Ed.D., 81 of Delaware,Ohio a kind, loving, generous father and husband and friend to all, died Thursday evening, November 7, 2013 in Willowbrook at Delaware Run.
He was born in St. Clairsville, Ohio, May 24, 1932 to Robert W. and Alice (Hughes) Lang. He graduated from St. Clairsville High School in 1950 with a strong interest in band, art and his 4-H activities. He graduated from OSU and was a proud member of TBDBITL (OSU marching band) and continued participation as an alum. While at OSU he was a member of the Alpha Zeta Fraternity. In June of 1955 he married Grace Ellen Miller.
His career started in 1955 in Auglaize County as the 4H Agent in the Cooperative Extension Service of OSU. He was drafted by the Navy in 1956 and on completion of duty went to MSU to complete his MS degree and then served in the Extension offices of Kent and Calhoun Counties before returning to MSU in 1975 to complete his Ed.D. He then went to KSU as a 4-H Specialist in Leadership Development serving until 1988 and was inducted into Epsilon Sigma Phi. Charles then became the State Leader of 4-H at Rutgers University of N.J., retiring as Prof. Emeritus in 1993.
He and Grace then moved to Titusville, P.A. where they both became very active in many Church and Community Activities. He was also highly involved with the 4-H - Japanese Exchange Program in KS and NJ, serving on the National committees and provided conference assistance both in Japan and the U.S. with several trips to Japan. In Pennsylvania he re-established the exchange program in Crawford County. In 1998 he and Grace were awarded the Meritorious Service Award by the P.A. 4-H Agents Association for their contributions to the 4-H Program. He became a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in 2006 when moving to Delaware. He approached all things that he did with a wonderful sense of humor sometimes sprinkled with puns. He thoroughly enjoyed his art work with water colors and often cartoons. He always enjoyed singing in Church choirs and the Barbershop Chorus - a many talented man.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Grace, his children, John Michael (Carol) Lang, of Columbus, William David Lang, and Susan Jane (Charles) Eberth, both of Basehor, Kansas, and 4 grandchildren, Kathleen, Casandra, and Alicia Eberth; and Adam Lang. He is also survived by his sister, Kathleen Love of Titusville, PA and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
Friends may call 1:30 – 3:30 Friday in the Summit Room of Willowbrook at Delaware Run and one hour prior to the 3:00 p.m. memorial services on Saturday, November 16th at Asbury United Methodist Church, 55 W. Lincoln Ave., Delaware, Ohio 43015. Inurnment will take place in Sunbury Memorial Park. Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center is honored to serve the Lang family.
