This summer, Lindsay Pitts (North
Carolina, ‘09) will be spending her vacation working as one of
four interns with The PGA of America at their headquarters in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. She is working in the business development
department, specifically with broadcasting and new media. The other three
interns work in different departments including membership, section
administration and communications & PR.
Lindsay has had a passion for golf for many years. "From a
young age, my father would take me out to play golf.” said Lindsay.
Before entering high school, Lindsay began playing golf
regularly and made the varsity golf team at her school that fall. That passion
for golf turned into the possibility of a profession through the professional
golf management major at NC State University.
This internship with the PGA is Lindsay’s third of four
required internships for her major. Her first internship was at The BroAdmoor
in Colorado Springs for the 2008 Senior Open
Championship and her second was at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon.
"This time I decided to do something a little different. I
felt that I had experienced much that green grass facilities (golf courses,
practice facilities, golf schools, etc) had to offer and wanted to explore what
an administrative position in golf could offer.” said Lindsay.
Lindsay has done well on her past couple of internships and has remained in
contact with Bill Cioffoletti, the Director of Recruiting & Community
Outreach for the PGA Internship. She excels academically and strives to become
a well rounded student that is willing to take on any challenge.
After completing her undergraduate degree, Lindsay says, "Graduate
school is on the radar.”
As for her future plans, Lindsay hasn’t quite made up her
mind yet. "Teaching, resort golf and working for The PGA of America are at the
top of my list.” says Lindsay.
Best of luck to you, Lindsay!
