Florida Chapter took their annual Spring Break trip to the Key West, Florida this past March and removed over 3,000 pounds of trash from the beaches and mangroves! AZ partnered with the NOAA Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, where five days were spent walking along the local beaches and kayaking along the coastal mangroves to remove 3,000 pounds of trash! Did you know that the average American will produce around 133 pounds of trash per month? With micro-plastics having such a devastating impact on the environment and wildlife, not just locally but on a global scale, Florida Chapter has begun making efforts to reduce our plastic waste production. From opting for reusable bags, water bottles, and food storage Florida Chapter hopes to do our part in reducing the waste that ends up on our beautiful Florida coastline. Who knows, with the combined efforts of our Chapter, family, and friends, maybe next Spring Break we will have less work to do!
