The Virginia Chapter of Alpha Zeta celebrated 2018's National Agriculture Week by hosting the 3rd Annual Mr. & Ms. Agriculture Pageant, selling t-shirts, and organizing an outreach event to promote greater knowledge about agriculture on campus. We had a blast hosting the pageant and had a great turnout from the community - it was a great way to kick off the week and promote agriculture at Virginia Tech! The event consisted of a formal, business casual, and dress you major rounds and the contestants talked about themselves, answered questions related to agriculture, and explained why they chose their costume. Before the judges picked the two winners, contestants ran through the crowd collecting donations to determine the People's Choice Award. The club of whichever contestant got the most money got half of the total donations and the Virginia Chapter received the rest for fundraising. The t-shirts were designed by a member of the Virginia Chapter and represented a blend of modern and traditional agriculture. Lastly, the outreach event consisted of sharing facts about agriculture while handing out cups and candy to students on campus.
