After our Retreat, the NC Chapter began its New Member
Education Week. The week started on
Sunday. When the candidates and Brothers
arrived, we shared jokes with each other and learned about the different
families in our chapter. After, the
candidates painted our Free Expression Tunnel on campus as a team building
exercise. They also received binders
with information on all of the active Brothers to gain their signatures. On Monday, we met at 5:30 for our traditional
Southern Supper, and the night ended with a signature session. Tuesday consisted of a normal signature
session, and afterwards Brothers and candidates went out to different landmarks
around campus to take pictures. On
Wednesday, the candidates took a test to prove how much they knew about the
history of our fraternity, followed by a pinning ceremony and a quick signature
session. On Thursday, a normal signature
session took place, followed by a traditional “Walk Across The Bricks” where
candidates get the chance to learn about the importance of agriculture across
our campus. The
main purpose of this week is to educate new members about current brothers, the
history of our chapter, why agriculture is important to our college and state
and to encourage teamwork and leadership amongst the group. It also gives the
brothers a chance to get to know the candidates and acknowledge the class’s
knowledge, talents or creativity.
