The Florida Chapter participated in a 5K walk/run to benefit the Gainesville Fisher House Foundation. The event was put on with the help of the Florida Ag Econ Club. The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America’s military in their time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform as well as the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by both the Departments of Defense and the Veterans Administration. The program offers shelter and support during a medical crisis while a loved one is receiving care in an unfamiliar environment. This special support is even more important to a family during the most stressful time – the hospitalization of a wounded or injured service member involved in military operations like Enduring Freedom or Iraqi Freedom. A few of the members were able to benefit from this event by getting to know each other during their walk/run while helping out the community.
