Wednesday, December 12, 2012 brothers convened at a fellow brother’s house to de-stress during the last two weeks of the semester, also known as Finals time. In addition to enjoying the forever popular movie "Despicable Me,” they also had a bake off, in which members brought baked goods and everyone in attendance voted at the end of the night. The winner was awarded a $10 Dunkin Donuts gift card, so he/she would have a plentiful supply of coffee during this stressful time.

Florida Chapter Corn Maze

Florida Chapter Corn Maze

On a spooky, clear Friday night in November, members of the Florida Chapter of Alpha Zeta decided to attend one of Gainesville’s corn mazes together. The Newberry corn maze attraction consisted of a scary corn maze, a haunted house and a frightful hay ride which had all the members jumping in excitement and fear! Everyone got to know each other’s "scare level” which helped bring members together, especially in the corn maze where they had to stick together to "get out alive”. It was a fun night overall.

Brothers were encouraged to draw names of people they did not know as well, so that they could find out more about them when deciding on a $5-$10 gift. On November 28th, the social committee decorated the meeting room with an artificial Christmas tree and area to place gifts. Brothers were thrilled to open their gifts and left the meeting joyful.

This semester, NC State University’s Campus Recreation hosted a Pool Battleship Tournament on November 8th. Six brothers of the North Carolina Chapter participated in the event for the first time with an Alpha team and a Zeta team. Brothers registered online with Campus Recreation, who divided teams into five heats of eight canoes. We arrived at the campus pool fifteen minutes prior to our 6:30 start time. The object of pool battleship is to be the last boat floating, so brothers had to bring tools. Three brothers were in a canoe and either threw water into other canoes with bowls or used a plastic shield to block water. There were no paddles, so teams had to work together to stay balanced while moving...

Jacob Pearce, Will Graham and Benjamin Mills finished the season with a record of 4 wins and 4 losses. They were one of the few chapter teams to make it to the playoff round in campus intramural events.  Games were 20-minute continuos periods each Thursday in October and November. They had a lot of fun working together and enjoyed playing against other students. In the spring semester, the chapter hopes to participate in regular 5on5 basketball as well.

NC Volleyball Game Two

The North Carolina Chapter is proud to have a great team of girls who are excited to play volleyball at 9:45pm after meetings.  On October 24th, six brothers played in three rounds of volleyball against another campus group. Our team lost the first round, but they battled back to win the second round. Although we did not come out with a victory in the tiebreaker, our team worked well together to play over 45 minutes of volleyball. The team enjoyed laughing and spending time together. This also provides an opportunity to network with other campus groups. The North Carolina Chapter is looking forward to the next game.

It is important to take breaks our busy lives so we decided to spend a few hours laughing at a nearby $2 movie theater. The social committee organized the event by taking a poll of which movie brothers wanted to see. We decided to see Ted at 7:50pm on Friday, October 26th. Seven brothers viewed the movie while eating popcorn and other treats. It was great to have an opportunity to laugh, relax, and enjoy the fellowship.
