Ice Cream Social

Originally posted by Halli M. James

On September 12 Cook AZ held an ice cream social organized for brothers to meet potential new members. This was also a chance for the potential new members to learn more about the fraternity and the types of projects we’re involved in. We all bonded over delicious ice cream and were able to explain the basics of what we do and we stand for.

On September 10, the Cook Chapter held a Halloween Card making event. During this event the brothers and new members made Halloween cards for the children that are currently at St. Peter’s Children Hospital. This gave the brothers the chance to meet potential new members and get involved in a great service opportunity to give back to the New Brunswick community.

Alpha Zeta Cook Chapter at Rutgers University held a s'mores bonfire on September 5th as a rush event for its fall 2013 Chi class. The event was a great success with a large turnout. We can expect a huge class this semester based on the potential new member turnout! Everyone had a lot of fun and enjoyed making creative s'mores with the addition of Oreos, Reese's, and other candies to the traditional chocolate, graham crackers and marshmallows. Potential new members had the chance to meet some of the brothers and ask questions about the fraternity and the kind of events we hold and participate in.

Brothers and potential new members of the Rutgers Cook Chapter assisted deans and Rutgers CORPs in working the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences open house on March 9, 2013.  Brothers assisted tour guides in their tours of the campus, answered potential and admitted students questions, and  helped deans and professors run their academic informational sessions.  There were over 1000 people in attendance and through the brothers' participation, everything ran smoothly.  Their volunteering was pivotal in making the open house a huge success.

Big Little Night!

Big Little Night!

Originally posted by Aubrey B. Weibel

On February 15, 2013, The Alpha Zeta Cook Chapter welcomed its new potential members.  On this night, the new members learn about the Alpha Zeta history and what the fraternity values.  This is the night they get to really meet the brothers of the fraternity.  It is also when the new members become "littles" when they get their "bigs", the older members of the fraternity.  Once they meet their bigs, the littles are introduced to the rest of their Alpha Zeta family, which includes graduated alumni and other members of the fraternity, even faculty members!  Most families end up doing events over the semester such as hold family dinners dinners or do community service events together...

Involvement Fair

Originally posted by Aubrey B. Weibel

Every semester, Rutgers host a school wide Involvement Fair and Cook Chapter always attends. This semester the event was on January 30th from 11-4pm. Brothers talked to interested people, explaining the ideals of Alpha Zeta and sharing some of the events that we've done. We always like to attend these events because we meet people who don't know about our recruitment events on a different campus and it helps us extend our reach. This semester was particularly successful as we got a total of 25 new members!

As one of our recruitment events this semester, Cook Chapter decided to host a video game night on February 7th. Held at a campus center, multiple stations were set up with games like Super Smash Brothers Brawl and Mario Kart. Anyone was welcome to join in the festivities, and we had many potential members attend. Everyone had a blast, and we even started a (non video game) session of Apples to Apples, which got very loud...

First New Member Meeting and Applebees

First New Member Meeting and Applebees

Originally posted by Aubrey B. Weibel

Right after the first brother meeting of the semester, it is traditional for the new members to learn about the fraternity, watch a video, and make sure that they want to pledge. As a part of this, the brothers take them out to a local Applebees for half price appetizers. This is a chance for the new members to meet the brothers in an informal setting and really decide if pledging is right for them. The brothers also meet all the potential new members for the semester and see if they click with any in particular - so they can ask to be their "big brother" for the semester...

Ice Cream Social

Originally posted by Aubrey B. Weibel

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!!! Every child has sung that song and when we get older our love for ice cream does not go away. It is delicious regardless of the season and when enjoyed in good company, it is priceless. Ice Cream Social is one of our newer rush events and has proven to be quite a hit. Brothers bring toppings such as caramel and chocolate syrup, whipped cream, reese’s pieces, m & ms and other goodies to put on top of either the vanilla or chocolate ice cream provided and once again the brothers mix and mingle with any rushes that come out to the event.
