The Florida Chapter had their last pledge meeting this past Tuesday November 4th. It was a bittersweet moment. Pledges finally finished their stressful 7 week process and were successful in fulfilling all of their requirements. It coincidentally was also Founder's Day, so we had a little celebration with cookies, chips, and subs. Each pledge had to complete 5 hours of service, social, and fundraising each.    After one of the pledge meetings, the pledges stayed in the meeting room and had a paddle making party. Each pledge is required to complete a paddle and obtain various signatures from the deans, the officers, and active and alumni members.    The pledges can decorate their paddles however they want, but as an incentive, the best decorated paddle will receive an award at the induction ceremony and a prize. On November 13, 2013 the Cal Epsilon Chapter held a shop day in the Fresno State Agricultural Mechanics Shop in which the new member candidates could come and create their own handcrafted Alpha Zeta paddle. This event was absolutely free of charge for the new member candidates. Custom paddles through the local woodworking shops typically range anywhere from twenty to seventy dollars, quite an expense.
